Folkestone Gardens Play Area, Lewisham
Project Overview
epd were commissioned by Lewisham Council to design and project manage the new play area which seeks to reintegrate the undulating character of Folkestone Gardens into the existing flat and austere character of the current play area, as well as to create new welcoming entrances, reshaped grass mounds and new footpaths.
epd are taking the project from inception through to completion.This included extensive local engagement and public consultation. Meetings were held with local parents, skateboarders and councillors; and also engagement with the local schools informed the design. The redesign of the park had to promote positive social interactions between the various user groups of the park. It was essential that the needs and wishes of the whole community were considered.
